China Favors Euro Over Dollar as Bernanke Alters Path
China, whose $2.45 trillion in foreign-exchange reserves are the world’s largest, is turning bullish on Europe and Japan at the expense of the U.S.
The nation has been buying “quite a lot” of European bonds, said Yu Yongding, a former adviser to the People’s Bank of China who was part of a foreign-policy advisory committee that visited France, Spain and Germany from June 20 to July 2. Japan’s Ministry of Finance said Aug. 9 that China bought 1.73 trillion yen ($20.1 billion) more Japanese debt than it sold in the first half of 2010, the fastest pace of purchases in at least five years.

Over 70,000 Blogs Mysteriously Shut Down

Late last week, the Associated Press reported that “dozens of blogs by some of China’s most outspoken users” had been “abruptly” closed in China, notorious for its strict Internet controls.
But less attention has been given to another blog blackout: As CNET reports, some 73,000 blogs hosted by WordPress blogging platform Blogetery.com, were shut down last week by BurstNet , Blogetery’s web hosting company.

Chinese Supercomputer Is Ranked World’s Second-Fastest, Challenging U.S. Dominance

SAN FRANCISCO — A Chinese supercomputer has been ranked as the world’s second-fastest machine, surpassing European and Japanese systems and underscoring China’s aggressive commitment to science and technology.
The Dawning Nebulae, based at the National Supercomputing Center in Shenzhen, China, has achieved a sustained computing speed of 1.27 petaflops — the equivalent of one thousand trillion mathematical operations a second — in the latest semiannual ranking of the world’s fastest 500 computers. More >
Google Shuts Down China Search

After months of speculation over when–and if–Google would leave China, Google has finally made a move: the search engine has officially stopped censoring search results on its China search engine and is redirecting Chinese searches through its Hong Kong server.
As Business Insider notes, ‘Google’s China domain, Google.cn now re-directs to Google.com.hk.’
Google.com.hk includes a note in Chinese that reads ‘欢迎您来到谷歌搜索在中国的新家’ (or, loosely translated, ‘Welcome to Google Search in China’s new home’).
Google has posted a blog regarding its approach in China.
