Amazon Reacts To Colorado Internet Sales Tax Measure By Firing Its Colorado Associates
Mar 8th
In response to recent legislation in Colorado (HB 10-1193), Amazon.com has sent a letter to its affiliates in Colorado informing them that the on-line sales giant will no longer be advertising through businesses in the state that that make money by referring buyers.
In order to close a $1.5 Billion budget gap, Colorado Democrats this session have passed a law that would make it possible to collect sales taxes on on-line purchases by creating an economic nexus between state residents and on-line retailers.

Mar 5th
Numerous surveys over the past 150 plus years have confirmed that people who seek homeopathic treatment tend to be considerably more educated than those who don’t (1). Palin At Oscar Gift Suite: Sarah Palin And Entourage ‘Like Locusts’
Mar 5th
Sarah Palin aligns her public image with the heartland, but it appears the former Alaska Governor has gone Hollywood. And when she leaves, she may be taking some of it with her.
On top of an appearance on the Tonight Show and rumors that she’s shopping around a TV show with reality producer Mark Burnett, Palin and her entourage were seen partaking in one of celebrity’s lushest rituals — the Oscar gifting suite.

GOP Senator Accused Of Mortgage Fraud Weeks After Trying To Weaken Industry Regulators
Mar 5th

DENVER—A Colorado state senator and the mortgage company where he works are being investigated for allegedly misleading consumers by sending out advertising flyers that look like official tax documents, a state official said Wednesday.
Investigators believe Republican Sen. Ted Harvey and American Home Funding—the Greenwood Village company where he works as a broker—violated state laws by sending the ads, said Colorado Division of Real Estate Director Erin Toll.
“I can confirm for you there’s an open investigation and my staff investigators believe it violates advertising laws,” Toll said. She refused to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.
Wyoming ‘Cowboy Ethics’ Codes Become Law
Mar 5th
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The principles of “cowboy ethics” are now part of Wyoming law.
Gov. Dave Freudenthal signed legislation Wednesday adopting an official Wyoming state code.
The symbolic measure spells out 10 ethics derived from a “Code of the West” outlined in a book by author and retired Wall Street investor James Owen.
The ethics code carries no criminal penalties and is not meant to replace any civil codes.
The state code admonishes residents and lawmakers to live courageously, take pride in their work, finish what they start, do what’s necessary, be tough but fair, keep promises, ride for the brand, talk less and say more, remember that some things aren’t for sale, and know where to draw the line.

The company will be required to submit plans by Aug. 15 to the state Public Utilities Commissions to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions at coal plants by up to 80 percent over the next eight years.
Xcel is Colorado’s largest utility, serving more than 1.1 million residential customers.

Mar 5th

An employee of Amsterdam's Schiphol airport stands in a body scanner during a December demonstration. The highlighted area on the screen shows an alert on possible forbidden items.

The scanners can look under passengers’ clothing in order to detect weapons and explosives.
Boston Logan International Airport received one new scanner this week and will get two more next week. All will go into the same terminal. Among the other airports getting the scanners are Los Angeles International, Chicago O’Hare and Charlotte Douglas International.
The Case Against District Attorney Dan May
Mar 5th
As troubled as I am by Fourth Judicial District Attorney Dan May’s efforts to intimidate and hassle a Colorado Springs business owner (whose business just happens to be legally dispensing medical marijuana), because May doesn’t want the shop located in a commercially-zoned area near his neighborhood, I’m also disturbed by the May’s efforts to spread misinformation about Amendment 20 and whip up unnecessary public anxiety about the situation.
