ATLANTA — U.S. smoking rates continue to hold steady, at about one in five adults lighting up regularly, frustrated health officials reported Tuesday.

Haven’t done that for a while, so I was surprised to discover that I had to wait a week before it would be delivered. “Yes, we make them on demand,” the young woman said brightly. “No one keeps them in stock any more.” And then she added, sotto voce: “Bed bugs.”
It wasn’t the “ew!” factor that caught my attention, but the idea that someone somewhere was actually making something for me.
